Review 06/03/04 by Stefan Koopmanschap of Electronic Music World
Full-Source
- The Nothing
Full-source is an experimental/ambient project from the USA. Behind it is
Tim Dwyer. According to the website of the label, Second Thought Records,
this album presents a bit of a sidestep from the usual music Full-Source presents.
Sidestep or not, it is definately some enjoyable music.
There's quite some variation in this album. Darker tracks, lighter tracks, synthpop influences (well, more than just influences), a hint of industrial every once in a while. I definately hear some old-school sounds in this disc.
Decision Making Process has a very cute sound to it, mainly. But the cute sound in not limited to Decision Making Process. The piano on Thinking Again also sounds quite cute. Thinking Again also has a good example of the use of vocals that return every once in a while on the album. Personally, I am not a big fan of these kinds of vocals, but it may work for people more into industrial, EBM or certain types of synthpop.
The Nothing is an album with a good, solid sound. However, for my personal taste, it is maybe a bit too "raw" in it's sound. People who have more with the EBM, industrial, synthpop scenes and maybe the gothic scene may be more into this kind of stuff.
Based on the solidness of this album, I'd definately be very interested in hearing the more technoid and ambient work by full-source. Though there are some hints of that on this album, more would not hurt me.
